Along with Alumni Conference Registration, the Alumni Relations is excited to unveil our latest initiative – the Alumni Directory! The directory is a new platform created for networking among UNAVSA Alums and current UNAVSA Constituents. Please take a moment to sign up here.

Attending alums are encouraged to sign up for the Alumni Directory and initial Pre-Registration first before moving onto official registration. Spots are limited and not guaranteed till alumni status is confirmed both in the Alumni Directory and initial Pre-Registration. What is UNAVSA?

The Union of North American Vietnamese Student Associations (UNAVSA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-partisan, community-based organization. What is the Annual Leadership Conference?

The Union of North American Vietnamese Student Associations (UNAVSA) annually hosts a continental leadership conference that invites students and young professionals from across North America to gather for an event that will serve as a catalyst to motivate and inspire leaders within the Vietnamese-American and Canadian community. When and where will UNAVSA-15 be hosted this year?

UNAVSA-15 is hosted from August 2-5, 2018 in Atlanta, GA at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel Downtown.

Who attends the UNAVSA Leadership Conference?

University students as well as young professionals will participate in the conference. Most attendees are affiliated with a Vietnamese-American or Vietnamese-Canadian student organization (VSAs, VSUs, UVSAs, etc.) seeking to develop personal leadership abilities, build on organizational management skills, and network with other leaders from around the North American continent.

How do I know if I qualify as Alumni?

UNAVSA Alumni are any former officially recognized member who has served under UNAVSA for a minimum of one year as: Cabinet Staff Member, Conference Staff Member, Cabinet Director, Conference Staff Director, CORR member, and/or Executive Board Member.

How do I know if I’m a good fit for the alumni specific programming?

Alumni programming is intended for the more seasoned attendees who have a desire to have more action-oriented agenda, have deeper conversations about controversial issues, and participate in dialog beyond your usual networking mixer. This kickoff track is meant for alums who wants to showcase their passions that were developed post graduation, we’re looking for subject matter experts in their field of study, and someone who is ready to really stand up, stand out, and lead the pack.

What kind of programming should I expect? Is it like previous years?

Yes and no. The familiar layout of the conference will still be there. There will be segments where there will be the usual programming but the intent of alums will be different this year. Due to the higher population of the alumni demographic, we are kicking off this year with alumni specific programming. Here is the segment breakdown:

Shared Programming

  • Ceremonies
  • Culture Show
  • Gala
  • Keynotes
  • Regional Caucus – alums will be more hands on and provide more insight to help out regional and local VSAs through alumni-led panels for the first half section of Regional Caucus
  • Keynotes and other workshop speakers from the non-alumni programming are also invited to join alumni programming – another revenue to mingle with those who are making a mark in the community and industry
  • Professional Development – we will be ramping up the professional development track but having working sessions. Each session will have an immediate deliverable at the end of the workshop.
  • Workshops – We’ll be ramping up our workshop tracks by having more conversations around hot topics. We want our alums to be empowered through conversation how how current hot topics are relevant to our community.
  • Unconference – We will have two tracks focused on ourselves – what are our passions and where can we have an additional platform to share where we are SMEs in? Think of this as a self-service blank canvas that adopts to the 25 alums who will be attending. More on logistics later on!

What should I do if I bring my partner*?

Unfortunately at this time, UNAVSA does not have the capacity for +1 programming. We understand that this stage in life is important and we want to share the UNAVSA passion with our significant partners as well. However, we do not have the logistics to support this option this year.

How do I register for UNAVSA-15 Leadership Conference as an Alumni?

Alumni conference registration opens Monday, April 9, 2018 6PM PST/ 7PM MST/ 8PM CST/ 9PM EST. Please sign up for the Alumni Directory prior to registering for conference. It is highly recommended that you pre-register prior to conference registration opening. Once you have been verified by the Alumni Relations Cabinet, you will receive an email with instructions to complete payment and finish registering.

What is the difference between pre-registration and conference registration?

Pre-registration does not guarantee a spot to conference. Pre-registration allows you to fill out all the necessary information prior to the conference registration officially opening, thus making it easier and faster to finalize your registration. Pre-registration does not require payment upon account creation.

When does pre-registration open?

When does alumni conference registration open for the UNAVSA-15 Leadership Conference?

Conference registration for UNAVSA-15 Leadership Conference will open on Monday, April 9, 2018 @ 6PM PST/ 7PM MST/ 8PM CST/ 9PM EST.

What is the cost of conference registration?

The conference registration fee is $97.44 USD per attendee. There will be no early, regular, or late registration fee. This fee does not include hotel registration. Hotel registration and payment will process at a later date.

If I have created an account with UNAVSA in the past, do I need to create a new account?

No, you do not need to make a new account if you have already created an account for UNAVSA-14 Leadership Conference. If you have forgotten your password, please feel free to either click on the “forget your password?” link or create a new account.

How do I know if my pre-registration is confirmed?

You will receive an email confirmation once you submit your pre-registration information.

Once I am pre-registered, when can I pay for my conference registration fee?

You can pay for conference registration once official conference registration opens on Monday, April 9, 2018 through the same portal/website: events.unavsa.org

What forms of payment are accepted?

When registration officially launches, UNAVSA accepts payments through PayPal! You do not need a PayPal account in order to pay for registration. When the page is redirected for payment, there is a option to pay with a debit or credit card through Paypal.

How will I know if my conference registration payment is processed and confirmed?

Once the Alumni Relations Cabinet has verified your alumni status, you will receive an email with instructions to complete payment and finish registering. You will receive a confirmation email once your payment has processed and you’re spot in confirmed.

How long will it take to verify my payment?

Payment processing will occur immediately upon completion of conference registration. If there is high traffic on the site during the time of conference registration, it may take a few minutes.

Can I get on a waiting list for conference registration?

If you were not able to secure a conference registration spot, you can select a waitlist spot. Once all waitlist spots have been taken, registration is completely closed.

How will I confirm that I am on the conference registration waitlist?

You will receive an email confirmation once you submit your waitlist ticket.

When will I know if I have secured a conference registration spot through the waitlist?

Once a spot becomes available, a registration member will contact you when your waitlist spot comes up. You will have 48 hours to confirm your spot and pay for your registration ticket.  

If I registered but am no longer able to attend UNAVSA-15, can I give up my secured spot to a friend on the waitlist?

You are able to transfer your secured spot to your friend (they do not need to be on the waitlist) until Sunday, June 24, 2018 11:59 pm PST / 12:59 am MST / 1:59 am CST / 2:59 am EST.

Refund and Transfer Policy

Because UNAVSA incurs certain expenses prior to the conference, it is necessary to impose the following refund and transfer policy:

  • A hundred percent (100%) of the registration fees will be refunded for cancellations received before or on Sunday, June 3, 2018 by 11:59 PM PST.
  • Fifty percent (50%) of the registration fees will be refunded for cancellations received after Sunday, June 3, 2018, but before or on Sunday, June 24, 2018 by 11:59 PM PST.
  • All transfer requests must be received by Sunday, June 24, 2018 by 11:59 PM PST. Afterwards, UNAVSA will not take or complete any transfer requests.
  • No refunds will be given and no transfers will be accepted for cancellations received after the above stated deadlines. This includes personal reasons, medical emergencies, and no shows.
  • Transfers must be given to another individual who has alumni status.
  • In an event that any individual other than the person registered takes the physical place of the registered attendee, the registration slot will be forfeited immediately and all parties involved are not permitted to attend conference. Individuals are also subjected to further disciplinary action from their affiliated organization or regional governance.
  • In the unlikely event that UNAVSA should have to cancel the Annual UNAVSA Leadership Conference, attendees will be refunded for the full amounts paid for through the UNAVSA Conference registration site. UNAVSA will not be responsible for any other attendee related expenses including, but not limited to: transportation expenses, housing, other personal cost.
  • Upon receiving your refund request, UNAVSA will contact you to verify your request. Once approved, a refund will be issued within seven (7) business days.
  • Please do not go through PayPal to request a refund, this will not expedite the refund process.
Can I get a refund or transfer my registration?

Yes, you are able to cancel or transfer your registration. Please note if you miss the transfer deadline, and someone else shows up to the conference in place of you, they will not be able to enter or participate in conference activities. What is the process for refund and transfer?

For refunds, please include your name and the email you registered with in the email. We cannot initiate refund without these key components!

For transfers, please include your name, registered email, and the name & email of the individual you are transferring your registration to within the same email. We cannot initiate transfer without these key components!

You will be contacted by e-mail to finalize your cancellation/transfer request.

  • Conference is held all weekend at the Sheraton Atlanta Hotel

How do we get from the airport to conference site?

Uber and Lyft

  • This method is widely used in the Atlanta! To save on cost use the ride share option. Rush hour is typically 4pm-7pm, and could take 22-50 minutes.

The MARTA Train

  • located between the North and South entrances of the airport saves both on cost and travel time during rush hour. The MARTA will take approximately 25 minutes. MARTA one way is $2.50, Day pass is $9.
  • The hotel is closest to the Peachtree Center Station, Stop #N1. Guests should take the north exit and turn left onto Andrew Young International Boulevard. The hotel is two blocks ahead on the right.
Will transportation be provided or do we have to find our own transportation?

Transportation to and from the conference site will not be provided nor included in registration cost.

Am I required to stay at the hotel?

No, you are not required to. However, UNAVSA has secured a discounted rate for guests booking rooms through us. Attendees are highly encouraged to book their stay at the Sheraton Hotel throughout the weekend of conference to ensure an unforgettable experience at UNAVSA-15!
