Magnetic North
Magnetic North is the hip hop duo Derek Kan (aka Direct) and Theresa Vu (aka T-Minus, TVu). Magnetic North's sound is distinguished by socially conscious lyrics, frequent use of live instrumentals, and genre-blending styles. Kan and Vu met while undergraduate students at University of California, Berkeley, and began performing together in 2003. Since then, Magnetic North have been frequent headliners for concerts across the United States, and the duo has shared the stage with artists including Ursula Rucker, Blue Scholars, Native Guns, and CHOPS of Mountain Brothers. Magnetic North have collaborated with many notable artists and musicians, including singer/songrwriter Vienna Teng for the song One2One, and Wong Fu Productions for the music video Drift Away. Respected nation-wide, they have turned heads from rap superstar Nelly to renowned civil rights activist Yuri Kochiyama. In March of 2006, Kan and Vu released their self-titled debut album, Magnetic North. Since the album's release, Magnetic North are frequently among the top 25 unsigned hip hop artists on MySpace. Steps of Rhythm (SOR)
Steps of Rhythm is a student based hip-hop group at Portland Stated University. SOR was originally created through VSA and now has been an offical PSU student group for four years. SOR strives to create a hip-hop community at PSU and having it accessible to everyone. SOR has been known to support and serve the Portland community by performing at various events and hosting their own hip-hop showcases, as well as dance workshops. SOR is not a professional group, but has the love of dance and uses hip-hop dance as a vehicle to express themselves and connect to the community.

Bao Phi
Bao Phi has been a performance poet since 1991. A two-time Minnesota Grand Slam champion and a National Poetry Slam finalist, Bao Phi has appeared on HBO Presents Russell Simmons Def Poetry, and a poem of his appeared in the 2006 Best American Poetry anthology. His poems and essays are widely published in numerous publications including Screaming Monkeys and Spoken Word Revolution Redux. He has also released several CDs of his poetry, such as the recently sold-out Refugeography to his newest CD, The Nguyens EP. He has performed in venues and schools across the country, from the Nuyorican Poets Café to the University of California, Berkeley. In addition to his creative work, he was recently honored with a Facing Race Ambassador award in recognition for his community work. Currently he continues to perform across the country, remains active as an Asian American community organizer, and works at the Loft, where he creates and operates programs for artists and audiences of color.
