Collective Philanthropy Project (CPP) Finalist
Lend A Hand Vietnamese Youth Organization, Inc., founded on November 23, 2003, is a non-profit organization developed based on the belief of providing healthcare and educational assistance for impoverished children in Vietnam. In addition, we provide many educational workshops for students from grade school to graduate school, healthcare drives and other beneficial community events in the Houston area. Lend A Hand proposes “A Touch From Angels” – with the heart as a symbol for this project. We propose that the proceeds from the CPP Fundraiser should take a direct approach: save children’s lives. We strongly feel that the money should directly go to save children’s lives through sponsoring as many open heart surgery as possible.
VietHope is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization working to contribute to Vietnam’s socio-economic development by providing access to education for financially disadvantaged students in Vietnam. uNAVSA, VietHope, and our respective communities of caring students and professionals are presented with an amazing opportunity: a chance to develop leadership skills in VietHope’s growing group of past, present, and future youth scholarship recipients and volunteers in Vietnam and empower them to sustainably help themselves and their communities. This opportunity comes in the VietHope uNAVSA Youth Leadership Program. Today, youth in Vietnam need soft skills in leadership, teamwork, and critical thinking, as well as practical skills in foreign language and computer literacy. The VietHope uNAVSA Youth Leadership Program will help provide these essential skills.
VACF is a grass-roots organization dedicated to empowering the community with knowledge and resources to help underserved Vietnamese Americans improve their health and quality of life by breaking the layers of barriers mentioned above. We believe that we should be selected for the next Collective Philanthropy Project because our mission, programs, and services are aligned with uNAVSA’s mission—to continually strengthen the Vietnamese American community and enhance the “long-term vitality” of our community through leadership, and empowering our population with knowledge and resources, both locally and nationally. We believe that by empowering our population with knowledge, by personally guiding them through the health care system, and by providing important information so that they can advocate for themselves, we are instilling tools necessary for our community to live healthier and grow stronger. We respectfully request uNAVSA’s assistance in supporting our CARE for VAprogram. This program is designed to address and fill the gaps in health care services that prevent medically underserved Vietnamese Americans from accessing timely care.
